Volunteer Opportunity

Advocacy Ambassador

Represent IWA in advocacy efforts, from contacting legislators to participating in awareness campaigns.

2-4 hours per month, with more during campaign peaks
Primarily remote; occasional events in Monrovia and county forums

About This Role

Advocacy Ambassadors are our grassroots network for creating change. You'll participate in advocacy campaigns, contact elected officials, share information within your networks, and help amplify the voices of individuals with Down syndrome and their families in policy discussions.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to advocacy action alerts
  • Contact legislators on priority issues
  • Share campaign information on social media
  • Attend Advocacy Day at state capitol (if able)
  • Write letters to the editor when needed
  • Report back on advocacy activities

Requirements

  • Passion for disability rights
  • Basic understanding of how policy change works
  • Comfortable contacting elected officials
  • Active on social media (preferred)
  • Good written communication skills
  • Commitment to respectful, effective advocacy
