Proposed IWA-Liberia Village Initiative Concept Note

A detailed overview of the proposed 5-acre integrated village model in Mont Barclay, including facilities, livelihood design, and partnership priorities.

As part of its long-term development strategy, Inclusive Wellness Alliance (IWA) Liberia is seeking strategic partnerships with international organizations, philanthropic institutions, donors, and development partners to establish the IWA-Liberia Village.

Planned on approximately five acres of land in Mont Barclay, Montserrado County, the village is envisioned as a comprehensive, inclusive, and sustainable center of excellence for persons with Down syndrome and other intellectual and developmental disabilities across Liberia.

The initiative draws inspiration from the Debora Foundation in Ethiopia, whose Debora Village model demonstrates the transformative value of inclusive investment and collaboration.

Integrated service model

  • Inclusive Education Facility with specialized and adaptive learning support
  • Healthcare and Therapy Center with accessible care, rehabilitation, and early intervention services
  • Recreational and Wellness Center to promote physical activity, social inclusion, and emotional well-being
  • Guest House and Volunteer Residence for visiting professionals, researchers, volunteers, and families
  • Temporary Residential Care Facility for short-term protection, accommodation, and support
  • Sustainability and empowerment

The village will include dedicated income-generating and vocational training spaces to strengthen skills, economic participation, and long-term independence for beneficiaries.

    Partnership call

Through collaborative investment and strong partnerships, the IWA-Liberia Village aims to become a transformative national resource and a replicable model for inclusive development across West Africa.
